All-Inclusive Family Day Trip to Giradote and Don Matias

1 Day

A very close trip from Medellin, Don Matias is about an hour and 20 minutes from Bello just outside of Medellin where our tour offices are located. Giradote is only about 30 minutes away. This trip is a little different compared to others. This is an excellent trip for families who want to get out of Medellin and relax by a beautiful waterfall and eat lunch on a river of sandy beaches. Yes, the surrounding area has river beaches, and they are sandy like an actual beach. For lunch, you will have A traditional Colombian dish called Sancocho and will be made on site while you sunbathe, take photos, or play in the water. There are also two other waterfalls on this trip. The first waterfall you will take a very short hike to, you can swim in, but you need to be a very good swimmer. Here, you can also take photos and relax a bit before you move on to your VIP waterfall for lunch. The final waterfall is an easy trail and easy walk to the waterfall, but can be a little more difficult on the way back as much of it is uphill. The waterfall doesn’t have an abundance of water, but it is a beautiful natural place.

Our tour leads you to the first waterfall with a deep swimming hole. You must know how to swim if you want to swim here. Our second waterfall is where we will spend time playing and taking photos. This waterfall has beach sand, so it is very enjoyable to play. We will also have traditional Colombian lunch here called Sancocho. After lunch we will take a medium difficulty hike to the final waterfall in Giradote. It is a thin waterfall, but a beautiful surrounding.

What is Sancocho?

Sancocho is a national Colombian dish, usually a type of chicken soup with cut up vegetables they make it with good flavor. Our guide will customize it as you wish. You will have a complete lunch.

Can we swim or fish in the river?

For the most part, the river is shallow, but has a few deep spots that may be over your waist or head closer to the falls. Proceed with caution as this waterfall has a lot of force. You cannot fish because there is no fish in it. A while back, a clothing store that put color dye on their t-shirts sent the dye into the river and the fish died. However, the river isn’t dirty looking, but you definitely cannot drink the water from this one. You can play in the water, though.
